Pumpkin Carving Tip

After you have carved your pumpkin, spray your finished jack o lantern with a weak bleach solution to deter mold.  Then, to prevent the cut edges from drying out and shriveling, coat them with a thin layer of petroleum jelly.

A Tasty Fall Treat

These mini caramel apples are such a fun treat. Ours didn’t turn out like they were pictured in Family Fun magazine. Our caramel slipped right off the apples as you can see. I read some reviews and found out that humidity or damp apples will cause the caramel to come right off. Well, a cut apple is certainly damp and it was a cool and moist day so I guess the odds were against us for looking pretty. But no matter, they were very, very tasty!

Soda Pop, Oh! How I Love Soda Pop!

I just laughed when I saw this.  I love soda!

And just FYI, my kids do not drink soda, juice or sugary beverages but on a rare occasion! This just happens to be one of my treats occasionally.

If You Give A Mom A Muffin

If You Give A Mom A Muffin

If you give a mom a muffin, she’ll want a cup of coffee to go with it.
She’ll pour herself some.
The coffee will get spilled by her two year old.
She’ll wipe it up.
Wiping the floor, she will find some dirty socks.
She’ll remember she has to do some laundry.
When she puts the laundry in the washer, she’ll trip over some snow boots and bump into the freezer.
Bumping into the freezer will remind her she has to plan supper for tonight.
She will get out a pound of hamburger.
She’ll look for her cookbook (101 ThingsTo Make With A Pound Of Hamburger).
The cookbook is sitting under a pile of mail.
Under the mail, she will see the phone bill, which is due tomorrow.
She will look for the checkbook.
The checkbook is in her purse that is being dumped out by her one year old.
She’ll smell something funny.  She’ll change the one year old.
While she is changing the one year old, the phone will ring (of course!).
Her five year old will answer it and hang up.
She remembers that she wants to phone a friend to come over for coffee on Friday.
Thinking of coffee will remind her that she was going to have a cup.
She will pour herself some.
And chances are, if she has a cup of coffee, her kids will have eaten the muffin that went with it.

Calculate Creativity

Calculate creativity

Isaac Newton got a little bored with the principles he was learning in math class when he was a young.  So he invented a new method called calculus. Your child’s boredom may not necessarily translate into a revolutionary idea or new invention, but you can put that energy in a productive fashion through creativity.

If they aren’t good at geography but love to write then have them write a rhyme about cities and their countries.

Bored of math, take a break and play a math game.  Look up math links  and other fun learning links on this blog.

The more fun and creative your kids are at their studies, the better they will be.
