Barnes & Noble Educator Appreciation Week

Dear Educator, 
During Barnes & Noble Educator Appreciation Week, October 11th  – 19th, educators save 25% on classroom and personal purchases, including 10% on CDs. Certain restrictions apply. Does not include purchase orders.
Join us for our Educator Reception on Saturday, October 18th from 10:00 am – 6:30 pm!  You’re invited to attend any of the events below.  When you arrive, please check in at the reception table at the front of the store to enter our raffle, get your educator discount card*, and pick up a goody bag (while supplies last).

*School Administrators & Teachers: Please bring a school I.D. or paystub and picture I.D. 
*Homeschoolers: Please bring a homeschool I.D. card or letter of intent and a picture I.D. 
Educator Reception:
Enjoy! Bilingual Storytime and Reading With Rover are in the Children’s Department.  All other events are in the Café. 
10:30 AM: Bilingual Storytime 
Bienvenido! Join us for bilingual fun! We will be reading the English and Spanish editions of Market Day by Lois Ehlert. Flashcards, handouts, and crafts for the classroom are available.
11:00 AM:  Reading With Rover 
The volunteers and dogs of Reading With Rover, a nonprofit literacy group, will be eagerly awaiting children to come read to them. You’re invited to participate with your kids or students today and whenever they visit.  Pick up a monthly schedule!
12:00 PM: Coffee with Kari 
Enjoy coffee, tea, and treats from our café while you visit with Kari Yadro, Community Relations Manager, about how the Alderwood Barnes & Noble can help you, your classroom, and your school.
1:00 PM: Story-Making with Deb Lund 
Author Deb Lund is passionate about writing for and with children! Come listen to her share writing activities, stories, and songs for the classroom. She’ll also tell us the tales behind her books, including her brand-new picture book, Monsters on Machines.
2:00 PM: Writing in the Classroom with Amber Kizer 
Amber Kizer, author of the popular tween/teen series, Gert Garibaldi’s Rants and Raves, will present a workshop on writing in the classroom-providing lesson plans and ideas to engage and inspire students grades 6-12! She’ll also share resources teachers can tap for author visits and curriculum enhancements at any grade level.
3:00 PM: School Is for the Birds! 
Inspire yourself and your students to enjoy nature through birdwatching! Soundview School Library Media Specialist Valerie Stein will share her successful integration of Project Feederwatch into her school’s curriculum. Author and former teacher Frances Wood will discuss her book, Brushed by Feathers, as well as diverse birdwatching experiences.
4:00 PM: Teen Booktalk with Sno-Isle Librarians 
Dawn Rutherford and Jackie Parker, Teen Services Librarians for Sno-Isle Libraries, will share hot teen books and must-read favorites.  They’ll also give you information about the great teen programming available at their libraries.
5:30 PM: Lucy’s Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethiopia 
Felicia Maffia, Manager of Exhibit Development at the Pacific Science Center, will share the backstory of the Pacific Science Center’s landmark exhibit, Lucy’s Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethiopia. Learn about educational resources available for your classroom, including free bookmarks and copies of Discover.
