As I study today I am reflecting on this excerpt from a speech delivered to the Moody Bible Institute graduating class of 1932:
“Let us remind ourselves that the Great Commision was never qualified by clauses calling for advance only if funds were plentiful and no hardship or self-denial involved. On the contrary, we are told to expect tribulation and even persecution, but with it victory in Christ…It is ours to show, in the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in personal communion with Him, a joy unspeakable and full of glory that cannot be affected by outside circumstances.”
The speaker was John Stam. A young missionary to China who had delivered this speech just before he and his wife set out for China and were beheaded one month after arriving, leaving behind their 3 month old infant.
As Acts 14:22 says:
“strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith”
“we must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.”
But with tribulation comes VICTORY in CHRIST! Amen!
